The idea is Pinoy cultural literacy. These pages won't make you fluent or help you
win a Filipino game show. We are only attempting to reinforce who you are by
collecting
kwan watered down by many a night at the call center.

Arranged according to our abakada, we know our little dictionary of sorts will always be kulang-kulang. A work in progress, join us in updating this book online with what's astig and what makes you asar.  Pardon the nose bleed!

  • Order your copy of Ano 'yon? Ano 'yan today!

We’ve arranged the words in alphabetical order (just like Ed Hirsch’s Cultural Literacy). We know didn’t include several more that should be here, while printing some that we shouldn’t. So we mean it for you to get in touch, to add your favorites or delete your pet peeves
    .

  • We've been literate since 900 AD!

Below is an example of ancient Filipino writing etched on a metal plate found somewhere near Laguna de Bay.  A Dutch anthropologist living in the Philippines
    has authenticated it
and dates it around 900 AD.

    Pinoy cultural heritage
    has been very rich indeed!

What Jose Rizal thought of Pinoys who don't know Pilipino

“Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika, ay mas masahol at masangsang pa...sa malansang isda.”

(Someone who doesn't love one's language smells worse than a rotten fish.)
